Scholarships

The DMC will offer scholarships each year. The scholarships are one-year awards in the amount of $500.00 not to exceed $1,000.00. Scholarship winners may reapply for a scholarship in subsequent years

Purpose

The Dallas Mayor’s Committee Scholarship Program was established to recognise and aid deserving students with disabilities in the pursuit of continuing education. The scholarships are designed to assist the students with some college expenses and indirectly aid the college attended by the scholarship winner.

Rules For Eligibility

  1. Completed scholarship applications with supporting documentation must be postmarked on or before May 31 of each year in order to be considered.
  2. An application can be submitted in any legible format but must include the following information, at a minimum, to be considered:

    1. Applicant name
    2. Description of disability (see section 5 below)
    3. Address
    4. Contact information (phone, email, or other)
    5. Academic background summary
    6. Extracurricular activity
    7. School(s) accepted for enrollment
    8. Projected enrollment date
    9. Intended course of study
    10. Financial need.
  3. All applicants must be a United States citizen or resident alien living in the Dallas.
  4. Applicants must have a high school diploma, certificate of completion, or must currently be enrolled in a local (Dallas area) high school.
  5. All scholarship applicants must have a disability as defined by any of the following criteria:

    1. High school students eligible for services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
    2. Students who are eligible for educational accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act at a college or university, trade school or vocational training program.
    3. Individuals who are eligible for services from the Texas Commission for the Blind, Texas Rehabilitation Commission or Texas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
    4. Individuals who are certified by letters from either a medical or psychological authority, as having permanent disabilities and have an accompanying letter for release of information.
    5. A student who provides written certification from a college/university or academic institution stating that the student is eligible for special services to accommodate his/her disability with an accompanying letter for release of information.
