About DMC

Mission Statement

The DMC is dedicated to building a universal culture that empowers businesses to capture the value of people with disabilities in the workforce.

Who We Are

The Dallas Mayor's Committee for the Employment of people with Disabilities (DMC) is a unique organization of businesses focused on increasing the employment of people with disabilities. The DMC was formed in 1982 as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization by a group of progressive Dallas-area businesses and former Mayor Jack Evans that wanted to make a difference in their communities by employing people with disabilities. With the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 came new challenges to the business sector, and the DMC rose to the challenge. Prior to the establishment of the DMC, the business sector had little or no input on the establishment of employment programs for the disabled. Together with the DMC, the business sector has a voice in the public policy debate on tapping this talent pool.

What We Do

The DMC is committed to creating an environment in which all people with disabilities can be an integral part of the Dallas-area business community. We share information and ideas so that businesses can implement effective strategies to employ those with disabilities without "reinventing the wheel." Our mission is to assist businesses in increasing their employment of people with disabilities. We further our mission by increasing through education, business and public awareness of employing people with disabilities. We publicly recognize businesses that are successful and innovative in the employment of those with disabilities. We serve as a conduit of public policy development information for businesses, and serve as a catalyst in the development of a "clearinghouse" of employment resources for business. In short, we give businesses a voice on policy issues involving employment of people with disabilities, and we provide businesses with resources to enhance the employment of those with disabilities.

Our Goals

  1. Promote the value of hiring people with disabilities
  2. Serve as a resource for information to businesses regarding people with disabilities in the workforce
  3. Provide education and training to businesses regarding employment of people with disabilities
  4. Provide scholarships when funding permits to individuals with a disability that are pursuing higher education
